While trends and multi-step routines constantly circulate online, the foundation of healthy skin often comes down to consistency and understanding what your skin truly needs.
At mellySkin, we believe a simple routine built around four core steps can help support balanced, healthy-looking skin while creating a strong foundation for long-term skin goals.
Cleanse. Treat. Moisturize. Protect.
1. Cleanse
Cleansing is the first step in removing dirt, oil, makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup from the skin. A good cleanser helps refresh the skin without leaving it feeling stripped or overly dry.
The goal of cleansing is to create a clean foundation while maintaining balance within the skin barrier.
Tips:
- Cleanse morning and evening
- Avoid overly aggressive products
- Choose a cleanser appropriate for your skin type
2. Treat
Treatment products are where you begin targeting your individual skin concerns. This step may include toners, serums, exfoliants, or corrective products designed to support concerns such as dullness, congestion, and uneven tone.
Treatment products should support your skin — not overwhelm it. Starting slowly and remaining consistent is often more effective than layering too many active ingredients at once.
3. Moisturize
Moisturizing helps support the skin barrier and maintain hydration. Even oily or acne-prone skin benefits from a moisturizer that helps keep the skin balanced and supported.
When the skin becomes overly dry or compromised, it may become more reactive, irritated, or imbalanced over time. Most of our clients are often dealing with a broken barrier from poor hydration and moisturization.
A moisturizer helps:
- lock in hydration
- support barrier function
- improve overall skin comfort
- maintain balance
4. Protect
Protection, especially through daily SPF use, is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. Sun exposure can contribute to premature aging, discoloration, and skin damage over time.
Applying SPF daily helps support the health and appearance of the skin long-term — even on cloudy days or while indoors near windows.
Consistency with SPF is key to maintaining skincare results and supporting prevention. If you are using products to help with hyperpigmentation but skipping your sunscreen, you might as well throw them away! I stress the importance of sunscreen to everyone I come across.
